The truth about eternity is...
"We all flirt with the tiniest notion, of self conclusion in one simplified motion. you see the trick is that you're never supposed to act on in, no matter how unbearable this misery gets."
-Self Conclusion, The Spill Canvas
This is a story i began almost a year ago. It is distantly based on something that has actually occured to me and means a lot to me. I have been writing it for so long because i have had a lot of issues letting myself re-live the memories that inspired me to write this. It had begun as an idea closly similar to that of a novel called "The Shack" which i have yet to read by that my mom had described to me, and a novel called "Veronika Decides to Die", which i have read and loved. I also drew some inspiration from the song "Mercy on Me", by Christina Aguilera.
My story is not actuallly what happened to me nor is it accuratly my story, but it is more about how i actually felt. In a sense, i took the emotions of the situation, and gave them their own story with real charecters. I have spent many a nights crying while trying to write this story because it is such a horrible feeling that i continue to revisit every time i write. It is also a story i have shared with only a few very close friends but i am finally ready to reveal it to the world.
It begins with a man, I'm not sure whether to name him Damon or leave him un-named., i have considered doing it like the "The Red Badge of Courage" and not give anyone actual names. Anyways, the man is telling the reader about himself and what is going on in his life. Quickly in, you learn he is planning on killing himself. The first part is completly told by his point of view. just as he closes his eyes to die, he sees something marvelous but then everything turns dark.
This is when the second half begins. An angel, possibly named, possibly not, arrives, without permission, to talk to the man. Being an angel, he knows nothing of how human emotions work or why the man feels how he does. Curious, he tells the reader his own take on human emotions. When he wakes the man, they begin to talk about life and how the man knows the "truth about eternity" as he calls it. The angel is summoned back to heaven and tells the man he will fix him 24 hours to live. If he can convince the lord the man should live than his life will be saved,. If not, the man will die. The man tells the angel he wishes to die, and has nothing left to live for. not sure how else to respond, the angel tells the man that he needs to find the courage he once had and instead of running away from what he is afraid of, he needs to confront his fears. when the angel leaves, the third partt begins.
Though the story line is awfully simple, not like my style at all, i plan to write two endings, the one that actually happened in my case, and the one that still has the potential to happen. I don't believe anything in life is written in stone therefor i feel that true love should have options. In the novel, the simplicity of the dialouge is to keep it realistic. I refuse to write charecters who talk like theyre from the 1800's. It's too proper and unreal. Some people may talk like that, but not my middle class, twenty-ish-something main charecter. he is very much like me. An intelligent individual who knows what he wants to say and knows what he means but can't seem to get it out there.
this is as far as i have gotten. i know where it will go but i dont want to share too much until i have figured out what turns i actually want the story to take.
